Introductory readings in classical chinese medicine. Unschuld PU.  Dordrecht: Kluwer Academic Publishers; 1988. 464P. [gera:28064].
The sixty texts presented here offer a marvelous and fascinating insight into the medicine of systematic correspondences as it was practiced in China for generations prior to the introduction of Western Medicine. The texts were selected from two thousand years of Chinese Medical literature (90 BCE to 1820 CE), and include selections from the Nei Ching, Ling Shu, Su Wen, Nan Ching, Tai Su, Shang Han Lun, and the Pen Tsao Kang Mu. Each selection is presented from an essential category : general values, structure and function of the organism, pathology, specific illeness and diseases, principles of diagnostics, principles of treatment, principles of pharmaceutics, drug monographs, and needle treatment. An appendix details special research aids, and a comprehensive glossary concludes the text. To train those who wish to read or translate classical Chinese, a full Chinese text selection is presented with a supporting glossary of key terms. This is followed by a Wade-Giles romanization and an English translation of the passage selected. Annotations are included where necessary. The readers’ useful vocabulary is augmented with each lesson, and there is an emphasis on the fixed terms required by all accurate translation. This book is an invaluable and indispensable tool for the study of primary sources in Chinese medicine, and a rich treasury of original texts for appreciative students and practitioners.
