CHENG XINNONG

Cheng Xinnong (1921-)

Cheng Xinnong, a native of Huaiyin County, Jiangsu Province, was born in August 1921. He began to learn traditional Chinese medicine from his father in 1930 and took Lu Mob famous practitioner in his hometown as his teacher in 1936. He started his medical career in 1939 and in 1947 he got his medical licence. Just after 1949 he was admitted to the class for advanced studies of Chinese medicine in Qingjiang, Jiangsu Province and Jiangsu College for the Advanced Study of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 1957 he began to work in the Acupuncture Teaching Section, Beijing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. At first he chiefly treated internal and gynecological problems, especially acute febrile diseases. Later, he practised acupunc­ture. His works include Annotations on Classic on Medical Problems, Explanation of Classic on Medical Problems, Essentials of Chinese Acupuncture, etc. Now he is an acupuncture professor at the Acupuncture Institute, the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the deputy-director of the China Beijing International Acupuncture Training Center, Adviser of the Beijing Acupuncture Society and Vice-president of the Chinese Acupuncture Association.  Professor CHENG Xin-nong is a famous acupuncture and moxibustion scientist in our country, who is a student and teacher of the first lot with academic credentials of acupuncture and moxibustion. He is the first academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and one of pioneers in international training cause of acupuncture and moxibustion in new China.
