DING GANREN

Ding Ganren (1865-1926).

Ding Ganren: also called Ding Zezhou (1865-1926). He set up the Shanghai Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1916, the Women’s Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Guangyi Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and made great contributions to the training of physicians of the traditional school. He was the author of the Hou Sha Zheng Zhi Gai Yao (An Outline of Diagnosis and Treatment of Scarlet Fever). The book Ding Gan Ren Yi An (Ding Gun-ren’s Medical Case Records) was compiled by his students.

Ding Ganren, a teacher was known for his work on scarlet fever and his book Housha Zhengzhi Gaiyao (Fundamental Ideas on How to Diagnose and Treat Scarlet Fever).

In treating hematemesis, hemoptysis, hematochezia and bloody urine, Mr Ding Ganren, a well-known physician, used clearing liver and stomach, clearing lung and enriching yin, clearing heat and removing dampness, enrichingqi and yin and nourishing kidney-yin methods according to the bleeding causes and sites.
