Guo Chengjie (1920-)
Guo Chengjie, a native of Fupin County, Shanxi Province, was born in 1920. At the age of seventeen, he began to study traditional Chinese medicine and acknowledged as his masters two famous Chinese physicians, Bie Jiantang and Jia Hanqin. In 1949, he began to study at the Qinling School of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 1959, he was assigned to work at the Shanxi School of Traditional Chinese Medicine as a teacher of acupuncture after he graduated from the Teachers Training Class run by that school. Since then, he has compiled six volumes of teaching materials on acupuncture, totalling about 1,200,000 Chinese characters. He has been in charge of clinical research on acupuncture treatment of hyperplasia of the breast, which has won a first prize award for scientific research in the higher education system of Shanxi Province, and a second prize award of provincial excellent scientific article for his work. Since 1982, he has taken up research on the causative factors and mechanisms of acupuncture treatment of hyperplasia of the breast. Now he is a member of the standing committee of the China Association of Acupuncture, a member of the standing committee of Shanxi Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine, director of Shanxi Acupuncture Association and member of the Provincial Scientific Committee.
