Guo Xiaozong (1924-)
Guo Xiaozong, a native of Huining County, Gansu Province, was born in 1924. At the age of thirteen, he began to learn acupuncture from his mother and then took Shu Guangdou, a veteran traditional medical practitioner as his teacher. He started his medical career in 1948 after passing the medical examination for a licence. In the past forty years he has devoted his efforts to acupuncture treatment, teaching and research. He served as a teacher successively in the National Training Class of the Acupuncture Experiment Institute of the Ministry of Public Health, Class for Acupuncturists of the Red Cross of the Soviet Union, Class for Doctors of Western Medicine Studying Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Acupuncture Class of TB Institute. In 1986 he visited Belgium and lectured at the European University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He has given many presentations at national, army and international acupuncture conferences, about the theory and application of the effective spots. Research on needling benign thyroid tumours won a prize awarded by the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Now he is a professor and director of the Manipulation Section of the Acupuncture Institute of the China Academy of Tradi­tional Chinese Medicine.
