HUANG XIANMING

 Huang Xianming (1920-)

 

Huang Xianming, a native of Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, was born in October of 1920. He studied in the Shanghai College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the 1930s, and then he apprenticed to Bao Shisheng to study internal medicine. Early in the 1950s, he was the director of Acupuncture Department in the First Public Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Shanghai (the eleventh People’s Hospital of Shanghai Municipal­ity), and the director of the Acupuncture Department of the Shanghai First People’s Hospital. Dr. Huang is good at treating gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer and diabetic bladder diseases. Early in 1965, in cooperation with the Western medical doctors, he performed a tonsillectomy with his experience of acupuncture analgesia instead of drug anaesthesia, and initiated the induction of manipulating needles before an operation, which was successfully applied in subtotal thyroidectomy and ophthalmic operations. He tested the diagnosis and the treatment of ear acupuncture. In the 1970s, he manufactured a glass model of meridians and points with a field magnetic light which won a second prize of the scientific achievement awarded by the Ministry of Light. His works include Essential of Chinese Acupuncture, Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibus­tion EIanging Chart of Anatomy of Points of 14 meridians; Tomographic-Anatomy Illustrations of Points, etc. Now he is a professor in the Shanghai College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the director of the Shanghai International Acupuncture Training Center, a committee member of the Acupuncture and Moxibustion Speciality in Medical Scientific Commission of the Ministry of Public Health, and a member of the standing committee of the China Association of Acupuncture and Moxibustion.   Prof. HUANG Xian-ming (1920- ), a famous acupuncturist at home and abroad, was appointed as the director of shanghai Research Institute of Acupuncture and Meridian, director of WHO Shanghai International Acupuncture Training Center, chairman Of shanghai Association of Acupuncture-Moxibustion. Vice- president of China association of acupuncture and Moxibustion. Chinese side member and advisor of the organization committee of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS), editorial committee director of Shanghai Journal of Acupuncture and Moxibustion. In 1987, he was approved to be first group of TCM professor, tutor for master and doctoral postgraduates and leading professor of acupuncture science by the Ministry of Education of the State. In 1991, he was approved to be one of 500 famous and senior TCM doctors of the first national group jointly by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Human Resources and Ministry of Laboring Affairs, enjoying the special expert allowance of the state council, and he has achieved plentiful scientific results in his clinical and scientific field of acupuncture and was one of the establishers of « acupuncture anesthesia » in China. In the social public duties, he used to be people’s representative of No. 2 to No. 9 session of Shanghai people’s congress, member of the central committee of No.6, 7, and 8 sessions of Chinese Democratic Promotion Society, member of No. 3 session of consultation committee, standing member of Shanghai committee of Chinese Democratic Promotion Society, and directorial member of medical and health committee. He visited over 20 countries and regions of the five continents, and participated in many international academic communication activities and working conferences and was given award by leaders of many countries.
