Originaire du Sichuan, un des "cinq anciens" (wu lao) avec Qin Bowei (Shanghai), Cheng Shenwu (Beijing), Li Chongren et Yu Daoji (Sichuan) lors de l’institutionnalisation de la MTC dans les années 50.
